A built Vario MD 900 kit (by Vario)                                  The real thing in UK Air Support Colours

November 6, 2009

Now I have the remaining Vario parts, we can hopefully get on with the build at a reasonable pace.

I have fitted the massive Webra .91 engine into the main frames with exhaust stub, which meant elongating the hole in the floor of the tub so that it will exit cleanly, and so that it does not touch at any point.

As you can see on the left, the fuel bottle has
been painted a delicate shade of blue to
make it less noticeable when in the aircraft,
but still allowing  us to see the fuel level.

You can also see the exhaust silencer with
the tank pressure pipe connected
to the fuel tank

A better view of the entire mechanics
installation in it' tub

Here we are looking down at the left hand side of the Webra, showing the carburettor mixture adjuster, and below that you can see the
massive fan that will generate all the air
pressure needed to allow the NOTAR tail
assembly to provide full control of the
helicopter tail

Here I have been adjusting the pilot's seat position so that he can get at all of the controls.  I have had to reduce the seat height too as his waist was too high for him to be able to get hold of the cyclic stick at all.

Now he fits nicely, and his feet will
reach the rudder pedals as well.

The paint side is also moving ahead slowly but surely, with all four doors now in their final colour coat. All that remains for them is the lacquer coats, and then trimming them with the various fittings such as handles.

The main fuselage is almost ready for it last two colour coats, and then of course, the lacquer coats once the colour is totally cured.

The entire boom and tail surfaces are also fully coloured now, just waiting for their lacquer coats.
