A built Vario MD 900 kit (by Vario)                                  The real thing in UK Air Support Colours

October 21/22, 2009

Still quite grey and overcast, so as the owner asked me specifically to let him have some pictures of the almost completed cockpit in place in the aircraft,  I have spent the last two days working on finishing the cockpit off.

I have also, at the owners request, added a pretty lightweight bulkhead between the cockpit and the rest of the aircraft, with an access area between cockpit and rear.  The problem with this is that the nitro tank is very far forward, and means that the bulkhead cannot be full height on the port side of the aircraft.

Here are a bunch of pictures, the seats still have to be painted BLACK on the backs and  around the bases, but the seats are to remain in grey to provide more colour in the cockpit.

So, overall, I am quite pleased wit the cockpit, I just have to trim a little more wood away from the bulkhead alongside the tank to let it have some free movement, as it touches the bulkhead at present.

The transfers are now the proper Vario instruments, and look pretty good.

If I get the chance, and can some suitable odds and sods, I may try to add some more realistic switches etc.

The next task on my schedule is to mount the NOTAR system onto the boom so that I can then start mounting the tail surfaces. I still have to finish painting the vertical fins, but the navigation lights are already fed through the horizontal stabilizer and the vertical fins are drilled out to take the LED mountings.
