A built Vario MD 900 kit (by Vario)                                  The real thing in UK Air Support Colours

October 12, 2009

A nice day here in Blackpool, but there was work to be done, so I got stuck in again...

As you can see, it has been all about getting the mechanic mounting tub more nearly completed, and mounted in the aircraft ready for doing the final rather fiddly stilt supports that hold the tub in place nice and securely.

You can see in the pictures above how the entire mechanics sit way up in the fuselage, although I may move the nitro tank a little more central than recommended as the pipe connections are a little too close to the front top cover for my personal liking.

I also mounted the rotor head on the mainshaft correctly to identify the height it would be above the engine cowlings.  As you can see, it really does sit pretty close to the top of the housing, as per the prototype, which is rather nice IMHO.....

I have also mounted the fuel tank to the tub, and painted the outside of the tub in blue to avoid it looking totally out of place in the original white fibreglass.  Maybe I need to do the fuel tank as well ?

So right now, I am reaching the stage of really needing the Engine kit and the Rotor Head kit from Vario to allow me to move forwards.

I have done a quick base coat of police blue on the front half of the fuselage, and hope to follow this through tomorrow with the same for rest of the both sides.

I have also given the doors a second coat of colour, and am pleased to say they are coming up really nicely now.

I am waiting to hear from the owner whether he wants the vent grilles painted yellow or left in original aluminium (my preference), as if he does not want them painted, I can go ahead and start to fit the extruded aluminium to the top casing vents.

Once the base colour coats are on, I can also mount the side door rails to allow them to slide back and forwards nicely, and maybe even look at mounting the hinges for the front doors.
