A built Vario MD 900 kit (by Vario)                                  The real thing in UK Air Support Colours

October 10, 2009

Another bit gloomy day, so back into the hanger to continue the build...

Today was going to be a totally panels day, cutting out the doors for the other side, and doing the indent work on the inside of all doors to allow the glazing to sit in there without spoiling the nice flush fit of the doors.  I also worked on the Turbine exhaust area, so they will soon be ready for the exhaust stubs themselves.

The left hand turbine exhaust with the wooden ormer fitted and almost shaped in correctly now.
Here is the inside of the starboard pilots door with the recessing finished ready to accept the glazing as and when it is time to do that
Here is the starboard side rear door, now in base colour coat, and also ready for glazing with all recessing finished.
The starboard pilots door in base colour coat, and recessed ready for glazing
The Port side with the newly cut out doors trimmed in pretty nice and flush to the body. As you can see, I did not get around to cutting out the glazing apertures in these doors today.
And for completeness, the starboard side with base coated doors fitted in place to show the flush fit

And to finish off today's pictures, the same shot from the rear, which shows the rear door fitting rather more clearly.  So far I am pleased with the door fittings, which shows that Vario take a lot of care to mark the doors out and the fuselage cut out areas very accurately.  I have really only had to fine trim both the doors and apertures to get them to fit exactly.  The harder part is getting them to be nice and flush/
