A built Vario MD 900 kit (by Vario)
The real thing in UK Air Support Colours
October 9, 2009
The day dawned dull and a bit threatening, as per usual
really, so it was back into the hanger for a day of work on this
project.
The owner found a lamp that looks very similar to the
searchlights mounted on the rear port quarter just above the skids
and sent it down to me. He has also pestered me to temporarily mount
the camera pod s he can see what it looks like, so I have today
temporarily mounted both and taken the pictures below to give an
idea. NB the camera pod is NOT finished
yet.
View from the front of the
aircraft |
The
angle is about right
so its getting there slowly |
Here is the lamp
fitted
to the lower rear port quarter
|
A slightly better view of
camera and searchlight
|
And the searchlight again,
this time from the rear
|
So, that's some of the
"pretty" bits moving forward slowly. NB -
The searchlight is not intended to be a working version...
(at least as of now) |
| Another bit of
"pretty" stuff that takes a whole lot of work is
the glazing of the doors etc. As you can hopefully see
from the image at the right of the pilots door taken from
the inside, the only way to get the doors to fit flush AND
have the glazing correct is to recess the area around the
windows for a distance of about 3mm all the way around and
the same depth as the glazing material so that it fits
neatly INTO that groove when secured in place.
My thanks go to Ian
(Satsuma) for his suggestion for this method of
getting everything to fit really nicely, but it is a very
long, slow, and careful process to get it all to come
together in the right position, and without dremelling all
the way through the door skin. Satsuma must be one of
the best known scale builders around here, and knows Vario
kits very well indeed, so I really do appreciate his input
on this project.. |

As you can
also see from the pictures above, the engine covers have received
some more BASE colour, and I am now just finishing the turbine
exhaust mounting plates that fit to the rear cover ready for the
exhaust stubs themselves.
